21 Jump Street Review - 3 Stars
Laugh out loud funny, shockingly foul, and so cheesy you can’t help but like it, “21 Jump Street” dishes out exactly what it promises thanks to great chemistry between the newly thin Jonah Hill and dumb hunk Channing Tatum. The movie reboots the TV series—two guys from the same high school—a nerd and a jock—join the police force and show less than great promise. As a last ditch effort, they join an undercover squad who pose as high school students to weed out drugs and drug dealers. Hill plays the nerd while Tatum slips nicely into the role of dumb jock. But their roles reverse this time upping the comedy bits. Even five years out of high school, the teen world mystifies them. “21 Jump Street” works thanks to rapid fire jokes most of them dirty enough to make a sailor blush. Ice Cube plays a great straight role as their exasperated Captain—barking orders and put downs machine gun style. I love hearing the sound of a big crowd laughing long and hard and often and I salute “21 Jump Street” for delivering that rare treat. Does it deliver what it promises? Laugh out loud comedy. Is it entertaining? Yes. Is it worth the price of admission? for an “R” rated laugh.
