Safe Review - 1 Star
Jason Statham plays a disgraced New York City policeman turned cage fighter. When he refuses to throw a fight, the Russian mob assassinate his wife and leave him to live with his grief. Meanwhile, somewhere in China, a young girl’s math genius catches the eye of the Chinese mafia who kidnap her and bring her to New York as a sort of super accountant. She escapes with a code that only she knows and Statham saves her from pursuit by both the Russians and The Chinese. (Got that?) Statham and the kid fight both mobs plus a bunch of crooked New York cops while the body count rises to incredible numbers. “Safe” reminds me of one of those Charles Bronson movies from the 70’s. It looks cheesy and almost everybody in the movie is crooked, evil, or on the take. Does it deliver what it promises? Crime and action and a huge body count. Is it entertaining? Mind numbing. Is it worth the price of admission? I look for this to hit the free movie cue on demand soon.
