Seeking a Friend for the End of the World Review - 2 Stars
Steve Carell finds Keira Knightley, the love of his life, just as an asteroid begins a two week journey toward earth and total destruction. So the lovers go on a bucket list style road trip to tie up the loose ends of their lives. Occasionally “Seeking a Friend” gives you a smile or even a laugh — such as the company offering to give the CEO job to anyone who wants it, or the overly friendly “Friendly’s” restaurant where the waiters make out with the waitresses and offer anything on the menu gratis. But most of the time, “Seeking a Friend…” feels depressed. Crowds loot and riot near Carell’s apartment but just a few blocks away all is calm, and out in the suburbs, lawns look manicured and homes “House Beautiful” clean. End of life love can be beautiful, and occasionally I got a flash of that, but mostly I found “Seeking a Friend…” a downer. Does it deliver what it promises? Literally. Is it entertaining? At times. Is it worth the price of admission? For some.
