To Rome with Love Review - 3 Stars
Woody Allen weaves several comic love stories taking place in Rome with his signature light touch. Jesse Eisenberg takes the “Woody Allen” role as an architect living in Rome for a year who falls for his girlfriend’s best friend, a seductress played by Ellen Page, all while getting world weary advice from Alec Baldwin—a kind of spiritual advisor to the kid. Other stories include a newlywed who receives a visit by mistake from high class hooker Penelope Cruz, Roberto Benigni as an ordinary man turned into a reality tv superstar, and even a role for Woody, who engineers a way for his daughter’s father in law to perform on stage while singing in the shower. “To Rome with Love” has a light touch and some genuine laugh out loud moments. It’s a fine follow up to Allen’s well loved “Midnight in paris.” Does it deliver what it promises? Woody Allen Comedy. Is it entertaining? Very Much. Is it worth the price of admission? Especially for Woody Allen fans.
