Celeste and Jesse Forever Review - 1 Star
Rashida Jones and Andy Samberg are receiving a lot of attention for this indie romance, a sort of reverse twist on “When Harry met Sally.” Celeste and Jesse are soul mates and go everywhere together. Just one problem: they’re married and have decided to divorce. She has a great job and he works only a little. Soon, Andy finds another woman and Rashida gets jealous. Well duh. People move on. I found this story immature and annoying — but some may love it. The ending takes forever and offers no surprises. The whole thing made me long for the days when Nora Ephron wrote sparkling comedy romances such as “You’ve Got Mail” and “Sleepless in Seattle.” Instead we get this moral: don’t marry someone who doesn’t want to work if you are super ambitious. And don’t get jealous when they find someone more suitable. Does it deliver what it promises? Indie romance. Is it entertaining? Long and predictable. Is it worth the price of admission? Not my kind of movie.
