Looper Review - 3½ Stars
“Looper” has one of the most creative mind bending plots of a movie I’ve seen in years. Joseph Gordon-Levitt explains right off the bat, that in the future time travel is outlawed but criminals still use it to spirit bad guys back to an earlier time and rub them out. These “loopers” lead a fast life and expect to face the day they will have it come to an end. When an out of control Paul Dano let’s his older self escape, he comes to Gordon-Levitt for help which in turns gets him in trouble. Sure enough, Gordon-Levitt faces his older self — played by Bruce Willis — only to have Willis escape. The chase begins. “Looper” has a great cast, including Jeff Daniels as an underworld kingpin, and Emily Blunt as an in your face farmer intent on protecting her small son. “Looper” dishes up great moments when Willis faces off Gordon-Levitt. A diner scene feels destined for classic status. “Looper” pushes the envelop and goes way beyond the usual stuff. I think without a doubt this is one of the year’s best and most memorable. Does it deliver what it promises? Mind bending sci fi thriller. Is it entertaining? Will make your brain race. Is it worth the price of admission? Go for it.
