Jack Reacher Review - 2 Stars
In ordinary times “Jack Reacher” might pass as a not bad action thriller, but this story begins with a sniper picking off innocent victims including a nanny with a child on the streets of Pittsburgh. Watching this in the days after the mass murder of small children and teachers in Connecticut feels wrong. As the story continues, Tom Cruise in full swagger, shows up to exonerate the Army sniper framed for the killings. We get a hint of romance from Rosamund Pike—the British actress and ex Bond girl, who plays a public defender assigned to represent the man arrested for the killings. Cruise, as Jack Reacher, uncovers a conspiracy involving tough guys, construction companies and a scary/funny Russian who invites one underling to chew off his fingers. Ahhh—that and a too long running time make “Jack Reacher” a pass. Does it deliver what it promises? Some people who love the books might like this a little. Is it entertaining? Lots of action but uncomfortable gun violence and about a half hour too long. Is it worth the price of admission? I pass.
