G.I. Joe: Retaliation Review - 2 Stars
Well you can start by lowering your expectations — this is based on a toy, ok? The sequel begins with Dwayne ‘The Rock” Johnston leading the Joes on a secret mission where something goes terribly wrong and most of the elite squad gets wiped out. This was a set up engineered by some bad guys who intend to take over the world with the help of a Presidential double. The elegant Jonathan Price plays both the bad and the good President and he nails the role. Could be his best work since those Lexus commercials he did. (Was it Lexus? I think so…) Anyway, the Rock survives—Channing Tatum does not. The Rock takes what’s left and plots his revenge which includes a cameo by Bruce Willis for the “Die Hard” crowd. “GI Joe: Retaliation” looks great and really makes use of special effects technology. If you need a movie with deep meaning or an intellectual challenge, you might consider going elsewhere in the cineplex. Does it deliver what it promises? Loud and dazzling. Is it entertaining? Guys blow up stuff. Is it worth the price of admission? For the 16 year old in all of us.
