The Bling Ring Review - 3 Stars
Based on the Vanity Fair article about a gang of L.A. teens who tracked celebrity comings and goings and broke into star homes while they traveled or worked on location. Emma Watson – best known as Hermoine in the “Harry Potter” series – leads her mostly girl friends and one semi innocent boy in these adventures. Beyond the crime, “The Bling Ring” makes a statement about society, teens, and celebrity worship. Director Sophia Coppola captures the emptiness of celebrity and material culture. Leslie Mann appears as an overly anxious mother. Israel Brossard makes his mark as a new kid in school caught up in the girl’s crime sprees. Newcomer Katie Chang makes a spectacular debut as the girl who cooks up the idea. Does it deliver what it promises? Disturbing true story of teens and celebrity and crime. Is it entertaining? Gives you a lot to mull over. Is it worth the price of admission? A definite.
