The Heat Review - 3½ Stars
“The Heat” warms up a standard issue mismatched buddy plot with Sandra Bullock as the uptight neat one and Melissa McCarthy as the over the top messy one. Bullock plays an FBI agent assigned to Boston to uncover a drug ring. Instead she encounters McCarthy — an outrageous rageaholic who knows the territory and roams through it like a bull in a china shop. So naturally the two team up and naturally the sparks fly and naturally the team solve the case and come away better for it. The plot comes up with little new and Bullock has done the “Miss Perfect” role a lot of times. “The Heat” soars because of the wonderful chemistry between Bullock and McCarthy and because “Bridesmaids” director Paul Feig let’s McCarthy ad lib some of the funniest non quotable lines in a movie this year. How hot is “The Heat?” Most likely the funniest R rated comedy of the summer—and maybe the funniest since “Bridesmaids.” Does it deliver what it promises? Hilarious mid matched cop comedy. Is it entertaining? Yes yes and yes. Is it worth the price of admission? for sure.
