White House Down Review - 1 Star
“Olympus Has Fallen” opened and closed only a few months ago. Yes here comes a remake, or at least another version of a plot in which terrorists take over the White House and fail to keep it. This one — “White House Down” — includes Jamie Foxx as a very hip Obama style U.S. President keeping out of harm’s way thanks to civilian Channing Tatum, who arrives at the White House to apply for a secret service job. James Woods has a juicy role as an agent whose grief over his son’s death in an overseas war drives the plot. “White House Down” includes a lot of killing national figures and destroying of national monuments. Frankly I’m not a fan of that. Channing Tatum makes a good good guy and Jamie Foxx adds charisma and charm. Much of the action in “White House Down” is laughable—especially a chase in the Presidential limousine on the White House lawn. Considering this same story came out earlier this year, I’m not sure why anyone wants to see “White House Down” unless they need a Channing Tatum fix while they wait for “Magic Mike 2.’ Does it deliver what it promises? Terrorists take over the White House. Is it entertaining? Laughable and frightening. Is it worth the price of admission? Not in my book.
