The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones Review - 1 Star
“City of Bones” hopes to capture the audience that misses “Harry Potter” or “Twilight”. Lily Collins believes she’s a normal teenager until suddenly she sees things others don’t. We learn she’s part human part angel and has the ability to help the angels on earth fight the demons who walk among us. “Bones” lays on the special effects and turns out plenty of ghastly ghostly figures as well as vampires, werewolves, and other creatures. The story boils down to a “Twilight” style love triangle–between Collins and an angel and Collins and her human boyfriend. I wish I could tell you the various couples have chemistry but instead the angel human hook up drew extended periods of audience guffaws. Taylor has a nice resemblance to Anne Hathaway, but it doesn’t help the script. Filmmakers have already planned the sequel to “City of Bones”. I hope it turns out better than this overlong mess. Does it deliver what it promises? “Twilight” wannabe. Is it entertaining? Way long and derivative. Is it worth the price of admission? No.
