I hear the book "Where'd You go, Bernadette" is terrific. Cate Blanchett throws everything at her role as a brilliant architect whose creativity is stifled. She creates a hard to take character who becomes hard to watch. 2 Stars. PG-13
"Where'd You Go Bernadette" shows a brilliant woman in crisis. Is she manic or depressive or stifled? Cate Blanchett plays Bernadette over the top, a frustrated genius forced to deal with PTA and 8th grade school assignments, and nosey neighbor/mean girl Kristen Wiig. Billy Crudip fills the role of exhausted but patient husband. Newcomer Emma Nelson makes a believable daughter who bonds and understands a difficult mother. "Where'd You go Bernadette" takes too long, and depends too much on an audience's kindness. I have a feeling this is a great story better read than watched.
